With CAAL Racing: Max Lanza plans to move up to EuroNASCAR PRO
Max Lanza wants to take on the top drivers in the 2022 EuroNASCAR season – The Italian plans to compete in the EuroNASCAR PRO championship with CAAL Racing
Massimiliano “Max” Lanza will once again compete with CAAL Racing in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) for the 2022 season. The Italian has been part of NASCAR’s European championship since 2018 and plans to move up to the EuroNASCAR PRO category, in which the best drivers compete against each other. His car will continue to be the #88 Chevrolet Camaro.
The EuroNASCAR top tier is not new territory for Lanza, who will be competing in his fifth NWES season, as he has already made sporadically starts in the EuroNASCAR PRO classification (then known as ELITE 1) in 2018 and 2019. With The Club Motorsport, he made it to three races with a 22nd place as the best result.
Last year, the Italian proved himself in the EuroNASCAR 2 championship with CAAL Racing, winning the Legend Trophy for drivers 40 and older with one top-5 and five top-10 results. Moving up to the PRO classification is expected to be the next step in his NASCAR career. In the 2022 season, Lanza will compete for the Challenger Trophy, created for bronze and silver drivers in EuroNASCAR PRO.
“After winning the Legend Trophy last year I felt the need for a new challenge. In agreement with the team we decided to move up to the top category, thus competing among the professionals of the European NASCAR championship.” commented Lanza, who ended up ninth in the 2021 overall EuroNASCAR 2 classification.
“The level of the competition will be very high, every mistake will cost a lot of positions. The main goal is to be among the protagonists of the Challenger Trophy and then trying to make our way into the overall top-10. Being able to measure myself against such high-level professionals from the world of motorsport is a great milestone for my career. I feel energized and determined as never before. I can’t wait to start and find out where we’ll be on the grid.”
Team manager Luca Canneori expect Lanza to quickly settle into the EuroNASCAR PRO championship, “It is a great pleasure to continue along the path we have taken with Max. It will be a very challenging move and this gives us the right motivation to support Max in the best possible way. Racing with the best drivers will be a great incentive for us to reach the Challenger Trophy goal. “
The 2022 NWES season kicks off on April 9 and 10 at the legendary Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The EuroNASCAR paddock then travels to Spain, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Belgium and Croatia. In addition, two special events – the All-Star race in Italy and an ice race – are on the schedule.
