With CAAL Racing Max Lanza wants to finish in the top-5 of the EuroNASCAR 2 championship in the 2020 NWES season – A TV crew will follow his steps at every round

Massimiliano “Max” Lanza will start his first full-time season in 2020 in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES). The Italian has signed with CAAL Racing and will start in the EuroNASCAR 2 championship (EN2), in which he wants to score at least one race win and a top-5 overall finish. The car will be shared by Lanza, who will be followed by a TV team throughout the season, and former Formula 1 driver Gianni Morbidelli.

“This is my first full-time season with CAAL Racing and I’m happy to be part of a real top team this year,” Lanza told ‘Leadlap.net’. “My goals for the 2020 season are clear: I want to drive into Victory Lane at least once in the EN2 championship and finish among the top five drivers in the overall standings”.

Lanza with his own TV show

In a reality show interested fans can follow the development of Lanza. The CAAL driver will also provide insights behind the scenes: the preparation and fitness training of a racing driver is enormously important and such topics will also play an important part in the show. But the focus will of course be on the races, in which the racing driver from Rome will fight for championship points.

“We already did a test last year and produced a pilot episode,” said the Italian. “We’re following the same format this year, but it will be even more interesting because I share the car with Gianni in a competitive team. That way I have a better chance of winning. In short: Adrenalin will be the protagonist of the show.”

With Morbidelli, Lanza has a teammate at his side who has a lot of racing experience but is also a true NWES rookie. Nevertheless, Lanza believes that the two can benefit from each other: “I am proud and honoured to share the car with a former Formula 1 driver. I think he can help me to find the best possible setup for the car,” said Lanza.

Since the season start could probably last until September according to NWES boss Jerome Galpin’s statement to ‘Autohebdo‘, Lanza is currently competing in the EuroNASCAR Esports Series, which is based on the simulation iRacing. The Italian is an absolute sim racing beginner and had to get used to the new environment first.

“I think that simulations are the best way to stay in practice,” said Lanza. “Especially the platform we use for ENES, iRacing, simulates the behaviour of a racing car very well. It helps us to learn the tracks and some important reference points”.

In the ENES, which will have an influence on the real team classification, Lanza wants to improve continuously: “Of course I don’t think as much about the ENES as I do about the real NWES. I am a beginner in sim racing and therefore had some problems with the strong competitors and the handling of the car, which has no electronic aids. I would be very happy about a top-10 result”.

Since his EuroNASCAR race in 2018, Lanza has so far competed in 18 races in his career in the real NWES – 15 in the EuroNASCAR 2 and three in the EuroNASCAR PRO championship. His best result until today is a fourth place at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain in 2019.
