After his EuroNASCAR PRO debut at the Automotodrom Grobnik Simon Pilate was pleased to receive congratulations from Jacques Villeneuve and Patrick Lemarie
“My mentors Jacques Villeneuve and Patrick Lemarie, who congratulated me after the event, were delighted with my top 10 result in the EuroNASCAR PRO,” rookie Simon Pilate told ‘Leadlap.net’. After only four EuroNASCAR 2 races, the 18-year-old was able to prove himself for the first time in the EuroNASCAR PRO championship. At the Automotodrom Grobnik the Feed Vict Racing driver impressed with solid performances.
“My second and best PRO race this weekend was extraordinary”, the Belgian continued. “Due to some accidents and passes I managed to finish seventh in the PRO category.” His team bosses and mentors Villeneuve and Lemarie, who both had to skip the race in Croatia, were pleased by his performance.
In his first race in the highest class of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES), Pilate finished in a solid 13th place. But the 18-year-old also started in the EuroNASCAR 2 championship as usual: he finished eighth and seventh in the races.
All in all it was a very successful weekend for the NASCAR rookie, who finished tenth in the EuroNASCAR 2 championship ahead of the season final in Spain. This makes him currently the fifth best rookie on the grid, who sits only 72 points behind the leader Vittorio Ghirelli. With a maximum of 264 points still to be awarded, Pilate still has high goals in his first NWES season.
Accordingly, the young talent is looking forward to the last four races of the season in Valencia, Spain, with great motivation: “There was definitely potential to be even better. But most importantly, I gained a lot of experience and will travel stronger to the race weekend in Valencia. I hope that luck will be on our side and that I can show my true potential”.
