Wim Peeters is now allowed to wear the golden stripes on the roof spoiler of his Stockcar F2 car – The Dutchman won the Worldcup 2022 on Saturday at Raceway Venray

The Worldcups of Stockcar F1 and Stockcar F2 are the highlight of the season at Raceway Venray in the Netherlands. On August 20 and 21, not only did thousands of fans made their trip to the oval, but the UK’s elite stock car drivers made their way back to the mainland for the first time since 2019 to battle it out for the big trophies on the 400-meter Autospeedway oval. However, a local hero triumphed in Stockcar F2.

Wim Peeters, who has already become Stockcar F2 World Champion in Great Britain in his career, secured pole position for the Worldcup round on Saturday via the points and impressed with a strong performance from grid position one. The Dutchman with start number 124 did not relinquish the lead once and thus secured an impressive flag-to-flag victory.

Behind him lined up two Brits who stayed close to Peeters but never had the chance to attack the Dutch champion. It was also very surprising that not a single safety car phase was necessary in the full-contact class. Peeters finished ahead of Harley Burns and Stockcar F2 World Champion Chris Burgoyne. “It was a great race,” Peeters tells ‘Leadlap.net’ after the race. “We did it!”

However, the double-header at Raceway Venray was not only about the Worldcup, but also about points for the overall standings. On Saturday, Donny Hoedt raced to the top of the day’s standings with 28 points, followed by Burns and Piet Huussen. Hoedt collected 35 points on Sunday, relegating Chris Hendriks to second and Chris Weyenberg to third.

Peeters now gets to put two gold stripes on his silver roof spoiler, representing his Dutch Championship win, which will prominently display that he won the 2022 World Cup until August 2023. For the Dutchman, it’s another major achievement in his impressive Stockcar F2 career. Crazy: Peeters also competed in Stockcar F1 and thus pulled impressive double duties.
