EuroNASCAR driver Michael Bleekemolen has been involved in a skiing accident in Austria in January 2023 – The Dutchman is being treated in hospital

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) is hoping for a speedy recovery for EuroNASCAR 2 driver Michael Bleekemolen. The 73-year-old had an accident while skiing during his winter vacation in Austria in late January 2023 and had to be flown to the hospital by helicopter due to his injuries. The Dutchman is to be transferred to the Netherlands before the end of January.

The known injuries indicate a lengthy rehabilitation: According to the website of Raceplanet, the Bleekemolen family team, the veteran driver has four broken ribs, a lung injury and a suspected broken shoulder. In addition, the 73-year-old is said to have been unconscious for around half an hour after the accident.

Bleekemolen had announced at the end of the 2022 NWES season that he also wanted to compete in the EuroNASCAR 2 championship in 2023. On social media, the 73-year-old has already come forward and announced that he is immediately working on a return to the race track. The NWES season opener will take place on May 6 and 7 at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain.
