It’s a milestone for the NWES: For the first time, Loris Hezemans and Giorgio Maggi will be two EuroNASCAR drivers competing in the same NASCAR Xfinity Series race

For Giorgio Maggi and Loris Hezemans, it will soon be across the pond. The two Hendriks drivers, who compete in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) EuroNASCAR PRO Championship, will make their NASCAR Xfinity guest appearance at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway circuit. While it will be Hezemans’ third U.S. race of the 2021 season on August 14, Maggi will be making his debut.

While Hezemans will pilot the #33 Reaume Brothers car, Maggi will take his seat in the #42 MBM Motorsports Team Hezeberg Toyota. The 23-year-old is the first Swiss to ever compete in a national US NASCAR race. The brains behind the entry of the two Europeans is Toine Hezemans, Loris’ father and former sports car racer.

The Dutchman has not yet commented on his entry, but Maggi can’t wait to take a seat in a 700-hp Toyota Supra: “It’s still really hard to believe because it seems so surreal,” said Maggi, who can hardly believe his luck. “I first came into contact with NASCAR two years ago and honestly had no idea about this type of motorsport.”

“Now I’m going to be right in the middle of it,” said the 23-year-old from Hergiswil. “I’m really looking forward to it, but I’m also a little nervous, I have to admit. I’m super excited to be the first Swiss to compete in a NASCAR National Championship in the US.”

The NASCAR Xfinity race will take place on August 14, 2021, at 10 p.m. German time. The races of the second NASCAR league can be followed in Germany exclusively via Trackpass. Just two weeks later, both Hezemans and Maggi will compete again in the NWES, as the third race weekend of the season is then scheduled at the Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic.
