March 6, 2023: Ericsson wins in a chaotic season opener
Marcus Ericsson has won the first IndyCar race of the 2023 season in St. Petersburg. The Swede prevailed over Pato O’Ward in the closing stages. The first lap saw a violent accident involving numerous cars. Rookie Benjamin Pedersen crashed into the stationary car of Devlin DeFrancesco, catapulting him into the air. Later, Kyle Kirkwood collided with the car of Jack Harvey and flew over his competitor’s car. The decisive crash occurred between Scott McLaughlin and pole setter Romain Grosjean, who touched each other in the battle for first place and went into the tire piles.
