April 29, 2023: Rockenfeller joins JDC-Miller Motorsport
Mike Rockenfeller and Dutchman Tijmen van der Helm will compete for JDC-Miller Motorsport in the premier prototype class in the IMSA series. As winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the 24 Hours of Daytona, Mike Rockenfeller is the more experienced of the duo of the German and the Dutchman. Tijmen van der Helm raced in Formula 3 in 2021 and has already gained parallel experience in the Le Mans Cup. The two plan to make their LMDh debut with the team at Laguna Seca on May 14, 2023.
April 17, 2023: Porsche grabs the win in Long Beach
Porsche has claimed the first victory in the GTP LMDh era. Mathieu Jaminet and Nick Tandy prevailed over the competition in the Super Sprint Race at Long Beach. In a thrilling final phase, the Frenchman fended off an attack by Ricky Taylor in the Wayne Taylor Andretti Acura, who misjudged and crashed into the wall. Race officials were forced to finish the final lap under FCY. Second was the BMW of Nick Yelloly and Connor Di Phillippi, while the sister Porsche completed the Long Beach podium.
April 15, 2023: Kvyat joins Lamborghini
Former Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat will drive a LMDh-prototype for Lamborghini, starting in 2024. This makes the Russian the fourth works driver, along with Andrea Caldarelli, Mirko Bortolotti and Romain Grosjean, who have already been officially confirmed by the brand. Bortolotti and Kvyat know each other well as they both pilot a LMP2-Oreca run by Prema in the WEC. The Italians will utilise a twin-turbo V8 and partner up with Ligier as they provide the chassis for the hybrid prototype. The first rollout of the brand new Lamborghini is expected this summer. It is still unclear when and where the first race of the LMDh car will take place.
