With Gianni Morbidelli, another former Formula 1 driver joins the NWES – The Italian will team up with CAAL Racing to drive in the EuroNASCAR PRO championship

Gianni Morbidelli raced in Formula 1 for eight years. His employers were teams like Sauber, Minardi, Arrows and also Ferrari, who used the Italian as a test driver. Morbidelli even competed in one race for the Italian top team. Now, after several years in touring car racing – WTCC, WTCR and TCR – the 52-year-old will compete in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES).

Morbidelli will compete for CAAL Racing in the EuroNASCAR PRO and will share the #88 car with Max Lanza. The team knows the Italian race driver very well, because they have often competed against each other in the past. The two-time Superstars Series champion is looking forward to his time in the NWES, which he describes as motorsport as it should be.

“Even if I have been involved in motorsports for 40 years, there are many strong drivers who have a lot of specific knowledge of these cars and I hope that with my experience I can speed up the learning process a little bit. I look forward to meeting them and the many young talents racing in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series on track,” said Morbidelli.

“EuroNASCAR has a great appeal for the public and exalts the human side for the drivers, but also for the fans, who can experience the events being very close to the protagonists and have a unique time. This is something too often missing in our sport and it is wonderful to be able to find it again.”
