Lucas Luhr will be making his NASCAR debut in the 2022 NWES season – the former works driver for Porsche, Audi and BMW will compete for Racingfuel Motorsport

The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) will welcome a prominent race car driver from Germany in the 2022 season. Former Porsche, Audi and BMW works driver Lucas Luhr will compete for Racingfuel Motorsport in the EuroNASCAR PRO championship. Both the German and the team from Switzerland celebrate their NASCAR debut on the European stage.

Luhr knows US racing like the back of his hand: In his multifaceted career, the 42-year-old competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona and also in the 12 Hours of Sebring. In 2013, an IndyCar outing in Sonoma was added for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing. In Europe, the racing driver from Mülheim-Kärlich competed for Audi in the DTM, among others. One of his greatest successes is winning the GT1 World Championship in 2011.

The German started eight times in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he clinched class victories in 2002 and 2003. Luhr also celebrated successes with BMW on the notorious Nordschleife at the Nürburgring in the Eifel. The entry into the NWES marks another adventure for the racing professional, who is also active in the virtual motorsports world.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series and providing my support to build and develop the Racingfuel Motorsport team,” said Luhr ahead of his debut at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain. The German will share the car with Christoph Lenz, who will take the wheel of the Chevrolet Camaro in the EuroNASCAR 2 championship. Based on his experience, Luhr is considered a prime candidate for a surprising performance in the 2022 NWES season.
