At the EuroNASCAR Esports Series play-off kick-off, the drivers offered a thrilling first semi-final at the GP track of Brands Hatch – For the first time ever, one driver managed a second victory: Michal Smidl

Last Tuesday, the EuroNASCAR Esports Series (ENES) playoffs kicked off at Brands Hatch. The race was also the debut of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) on the Grand Prix circuit of the traditional British track. For the first time in the still young history of the ENES a driver, Michal Smidl, won his second championship race.
Early on in the race there was a Big One in which of all people the two best placed drivers in the championship, Lasse Sorensen and Jeffrey Roeffen, were involved. The accident was caused by two-time NWES champion Alon Day, who apologized immediately after the race.

For a long time Sorensen’s team mate Andre Castro dominated the race, but Smidl lurked behind the US American and took advantage of the lap traffic to take the lead. “I had to wait several laps for Andre to make that very little mistake,” said Smidl after the race. “It just feels amazing but it was an exhausting race.” Third place went to Spaniard and sim racer Pablo Lopez, who started from 12th place. Andreas Joachimsen and Loris Hezemans completed the top five.

In the championship, the NWES champion from the Netherlands benefited from the Big One at the start of the race and the several bad results of the front runners in the championship. He was able to take the championship lead thanks to his once again solid performance.

His lead in the championship consists of a only four points margin on Castro. Tobias Dauenhauer is third and 19 points behind the leader. After the early accident Sorensen is only fourth ahead of Braxx pilot Bryan Crauwels.

The second semi-final of the ENES 2020 season will take place on Tuesday 30 June, at the Roval in Charlotte. As already in Brands Hatch, double points are on the line. The second semi-final of the ENES will be broadcast live from 8pm on the YouTube channel and the other social media profiles of EuroNASCAR.
