Academy Motorsports / Alex Caffi Motorsports has announced three drivers for the 2022 EuroNASCAR season: Patrick Lemarie, Thomas Krasonis and Federico Monti

The 2022 NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) grid continues to take shape: Academy Motorsports / Alex Caffi Motorsports has confirmed three drivers for the upcoming season: Patrick Lemarie, Thomas Krasonis and Federico Monti. While Lemarie and Krasonis will compete in EuroNASCAR PRO, team boss Federico Monti will hunt for points in both EuroNASCAR 2 and Club Challenge (regularity based challenge).

Lemarie is a close friend of Formula One World Champion Jacques Villeneuve and runs the FEED Academy with the Canadian. The Parisian joined the NWES in 2020 with FEED Vict Racing and moved to DF1 Racing for the 2021 season. He already made a guest appearance at Zolder with Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport in 2021 to replace Villeneuve and give his protégé Simon Pilate time in the cockpit of the DF1 Racing Chevrolet. He claimed his best result of the season with a sixth-place finish.

“I needed a new challenge after Zolder last year. I really enjoyed working with Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport, they gave me the opportunity to race this year with them with a very clear goal: win races. I feel like a 20 year old driver and I am expecting a very strong racing year with Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport,” said Lemarie, who returned behind the wheel in NWES in 2020 after a long absence.

Krasonis made his NWES debut in 2019 and has raced on and off in the EuroNASCAR 2 championship ever since. The Greek will take on the elite of European NASCAR racing next season, moving up to the EuroNASCAR PRO championship. In the 2021 season, the Athens native finished 13th overall in the EuroNASCAR 2 with two top-10 results.

”It is really a great opportunity that Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport is giving me. I wish to be as competitive as possible in this new challenge. I feel honored to represent the team at this level. I will work really hard to have a very strong season with important results,” said Krasonis.

Team owner Federico Monti will compete next year in both the EuroNASCAR 2 Championship and Club Challenge, in which he will aim for the title. Most recently, Monti has competed on and off in selected races in EuroNASCAR PRO to gain his first experience in the competitive NWES environment. The trio will be in the points hunt for the first time on April 9 and 10 when the 2022 EuroNASCAR season kicks off at the legendary Hockenheimring.
