Thomas Krasonis will compete for Academy Motorsports in the EuroNASCAR PRO championship next year – The Greek steps up into the NWES top tier category

The top championship of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (NWES) is getting a new addition in 2022: Thomas Krasonis is stepping up into the EuroNASCAR PRO championship together with Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport. Previously, the Greek had been racing in the EuroNASCAR 2 championship since 2019.

In 2021, the race driver from Athens finished 13th in the overall EuroNASCAR 2 standings. During the season, he managed to finish in the top 10 twice. For the 20-year-old, the promotion to the EuroNASCAR PRO championship is another important step in his young NASCAR career.

Krasonis impresses with development

The team was satisfied with the youngster’s performance, which is why the organisation by Federico Monti and former Formula 1 driver Alex Caffi decided to promote Krasonis. It won’t be easy for the Greek, as he will have to compete with the elite of European NASCAR racing in the 2022 season.

Krasonis is looking forward to the new task: “I am very happy about the trust and faith the team has in my abilities. Next year I will get the chance to compete in the highest category and compete with professional drivers. This gives me motivation to go beyond my limits. It’s a big step in my career that will help me achieve my goal: to compete in the NASCAR series in the US.”

Monti hopes for successful season

Team principal Federico Monti said: “It’s a pleasure to confirm Thomas back in our team and our car. He is a great boy and driver. We hope for a successful season in 2022 – both for him and Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport. He’ll be racing in the EuroNASCAR PRO series and that will certainly give him more opportunities for a great future.”

Academy Motorsport / Alex Caffi Motorsport will also receive help from new partner Petri Corse in the 2022 season. The Italian team is rooted in GT and rally racing and will assist the NWES racing team as a technical partner.

The first race of the 2022 NWES season is scheduled for April 9-10 at the Hockenheimring in Germany. The track returns to the European NASCAR series calendar after a two-year coronavirus hiatus. Krasonis’ best result at the circuit in Baden-Württemberg is a twelfth-place finish from his debut year in 2019.
